Southern Crushed Concrete Opens Sand Mining Operation in Liberty County

Local news

• The sand plant operations are built to help size, clean & prep 2,000 tons of material per day
• The sand mine is expected to produce TxDOT grade concrete sand and fine sand for 10+ years

Southern Crushed Concrete (SCC) has opened a new sand mine in Liberty County, just east of the Trinity River. The operation includes dredging and manufacturing of concrete sand materials onsite, with the goal of selling half a million tons per year.

James Walker will serve as the Manager of Sand Mining Operations with approximately six to eight employees working onsite. Fully prepped by the crews, the custom-built dredge arrived onsite in April and was ready to start harvesting sand by mid-May.

“This is a big investment in the sand mining business and will allow SCC to be in the sand manufacturing business in the foreseeable future”

“Borings on the property showed sand depths of 45-70 feet across the 130-acre lot with the possibility of mining an additional 500 acres in the future”

The Liberty County Mine is SCC’s third sand mining operation in the Houston-area in the past 14 years and helps support its recycled concrete and asphalt operations located in Houston and Corpus Christi.
