Heavy highway work lays foundation of infrastructure expertise

It was the promise of highway construction that beckoned founders Wayne Webber and Earl Champagne to Texas in the early 1970s. The duo launched Champagne-Webber in 1963 in Detroit. When the Michigan economy declined later in the decade, they set their sights on the Texas market.

Landing their first Department of Transportation job in 1979, they expanded their Houston operations. Champagne retired in the early 1990s, and Webber eventually changed the name of the company to W.W. Webber before retiring in 2005, coinciding with the company’s acquisition by Spanish-based Ferrovial. It was renamed Webber, LLC in 2010.

As part of the Ferrovial family of companies, Webber is able to leverage corporate resources of the world’s largest private manager of transportation infrastructure and a leading services provider, drawing off experience in more than 15 countries, a workforce of 70,000 and assets totaling more than $59B.
